Richard Shugar has devoted his 30+ year career to the exploration of innovative design solutions that capture the connection between people and their environment. His intuitive style enables him to create uniquely crafted solutions meeting clients’ programmatic needs. His experience encompasses a multitude of project types including: medical facilities, institutional & commercial buildings,
multi-family housing, custom residences, interior design and historic preservation.
Richard is an avid tennis player who values balance, connection, and making the most of life. The striking Art Deco architecture of his hometown, Miami Beach, left a lasting impression on him early in life and played a quiet but meaningful role in shaping his path toward architecture. He later moved to Oregon to attend the U of O, where his education helped shape his core beliefs around sustainability and thoughtful design. That same sense of purpose carries through in his work today. At 2FORM, Richard fosters a collaborative, ego-free environment where creativity and problem-solving thrive. Whether he’s working with clients, mentoring his team, or spending time with loved ones, Richard brings a grounded, people-first approach to everything he does.

What’s something about architecture that surprises people?
I think people sometimes don’t fully appreciate how much a well-designed living or working environment can uplift how they feel personally. The right space can have a profoundly positive effect on our behavior, both physically and emotionally.
What’s a vital skill all designers should have?
An open mind. It’s not about knowing what’s possible, it’s about discovering what’s possible.
