Brookings Beach House CLICK TO DOWNLOAD PROJECT BROCHURE Located on the inland side of Highway 101, the Brookings Beach House is a single-family residence in the idyllic city of Brookings in southern Oregon. Since the house is adjacent to a major highway and less than 1000 feet from the ocean, insulated concrete forms were used to construct the walls. These walls serve to minimize the sound from the highway as well as to provide maximum strength to withstand the Pacific winds. The compact floor plan sits on a small, irregularly-shaped lot. To take advantage of the views to the ocean, the main living area is on the second floor. The main bedroom is above the living area, in a third floor loft. The guest suites are in the basement. This configuration allows the main level to open up to the Pacific with unobstructed views over the adjacent houses and highway. Covered exterior decks and balconies allow the residents to enjoy the outdoors in all weather conditions. The living room shares a look-through gas fireplace with the outdoor patio. Exposed beams and joists are featured throughout the interior of the residence, adding to the home’s warmth.
